A native of Memphis, Colby has recently returned to his hometown as an active performer and educator throughout the area. He currently serves as the Percussion Instructor for Christian Brothers High School and Germantown High School.
As a performer, Colby is excited to begin his second season with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, but can also be found performing with
the Memphis Repertory Orchestra, various Broadway-style pit orchestras, as well as other venues around town as a freelance musician.
Colby began studying percussion at the age of 10 after starting his musical studies with piano. Throughout high school he performed with the Germantown Symphony Orchestra, Bartlett Community Band, River City Concert Band, Memphis Youth Symphony, and other local performance ensembles. His musical career has since become more multifaceted, allowing him the opportunity to perform with various percussion ensembles, world music groups, mixed chamber ensembles, and more. He has been on tours throughout Tennessee, other parts of the United States, Mexico, and Brazil.
Colby studied Percussion Performance at the University of Tennessee at Martin (Bachelors of Music) and the University of Kansas.
His primary instructors include Ji Hye Jung, Lee Vinson, Dr. Julie Hill, and Robert Kessling.
