2019 Summer Camps

This will be our tenth year of hosting camps and each year they continue to grow and expand. 

We have camps for almost every area of drums and percussion taught by the finest instructors! 

This will be an opportunity for your students to grow artistically by being immersed in a focused area of drums or percussion. 

 

2019 will feature FIVE different camps for all ages and abilities.

Drum Set Camps

 

To provide a complete overview of all aspects of the drum set including: history, lineage, fills, chart reading, advanced chart reading, linear drumming, polyrhythms and rudiments as they relate to the drum set. In addition, all styles that pertain to our culture on drum set including jazz, latin, rock, and Dixieland will be covered. Lastly and not often covered, all the aspects and possibilities of using the drum set explained 

and questions answered, both for the professional and recreational world.

All-West/ Percussion Camps

 

A camp featuring all major areas of percussion including the bells, marimba, xylophone, chimes, 

four mallet marimba, snare drum, bass drum, timpani, and crash cymbals. An overview of all the instruments, technique, drills, and in-depth studies will be included in each area as well. 

Perfect for All West hopefuls and percussionists of all ages ranging from 6th grade through 12th grade. 

This year will feature two separate camps for the Junior and Senior levels.

Marching Camps

 

The marching percussion camps provide students with a fundamental approach to modern marching percussion concepts including, technique, mentality, reading, counting, rehearsal etiquette, stroke types, rolls, basic and advanced rudiments. Instrumentation and a brief history of marching percussion will be discussed as well as fun tools for practicing at home. 

 

This year we will be offering an advanced camp for those who are preparing to march in college or drum corps.

Marching Percussion Camp

Middle Tennessee State University and Caixa Trio

Julie Davila is a member of the chamber percussion ensemble the CAIXA TRIO. In addition to her membership in the CAIXA TRIO, she has served as the chair of the Percussive Arts Society Marching Percussion Committee and is the founder and executive director of Percussion XS, a dynamic new honors percussion group featuring middle and high school students. Prior to Julie launching Percussion XS, she was the percussion specialist at several high schools in Nashville, Tennessee. Many of her groups have medaled in all divisions of the WGI activity and in 1996 the John Overton High School Indoor Drum Line, under her direction, won a National Championship. Julie has recently joined the nationally recognized adjudication team for WGI. As a member of the CAIXA TRIO and as an active clinician specializing in contemporary and marching percussion, she has performed in Seoul, South Korea, Paris, France, Puerto Rico and extensively throughout the United States. Julie received her degree from the University of North Texas. She has published numerous marching and concert percussion features through Row-Loff Productions and Drop6 Media. She is the author of the “Modern Multi-Tenor Techniques and Solos” and “Impressions on Wood” published by Row-Loff, and is a co-author of “Aptitude”, an innovative solo snare book published by Drop 6 Media. Julie is an endorser and clinician for the Pearl Corporation, Innovative Percussion, the Avedis Zildjian Company, Grover Pro Percussion, and Evans Drum Heads.
